Propers for Ordination Anniversary
  • Hello Friends,

Thank you for all the wonderful discussions that are hosted on this forum. I have learned much here by reading and I am hopeful someone can point me in the right direction.

I will be directing the music for an upcoming 25th priestly ordination anniversary Mass of Thanksgiving (Ordinary Form). What would be the propers for such a celebration? I could not locate them in the Graduale but I admit I may be missing something.

Thanks in advance for your help!
  • Here is the euchology in English.
  • Welcome to the forum!

There are no propers in the Graduale Romanum specifically assigned for the anniversary of a priestly ordination, but you may want to consider the selections on p. 651 under the heading 5. Pro sacerdotibus (Missale Romanum n. 6).

For those who need/wish to use selections from the Graduale Simplex some appropriate selections may be found under In professione religiosa (p. 385) and Pro vocationibus (pp. 387–388).

(For what it's worth, for a recent 25th anniversary Mass I organized, the choir sang the proper chants of the Sunday on which it occurred.)
  • The original Latin

    C
    In anniversario propriæ ordinationis

Ant. ad introitum Cf. Io 15, 16
    Nos vos me elegístis, dicit Dóminus;
sed ego elégi vos, et pósui vos ut eátis et fructum afferátis,
    et fructus vester máneat.

    Collecta
    Pater sancte, qui me

    Super oblata
    Pro nostræ servitútis augménto
    sacrifícium tibi, Dómine, laudis offérimus,
ut, quod imméritis contulísti, propítius exsequáris.
    Per Christum.

Ant. ad communionem Cf. 1 Cor 10, 16
    Calix benedictiónis cui benedícimus,
    communicátio Sánguinis Christi est;
    et panis quem frángimus,
    participátio Córporis Dómini est.

    Post communionem
    Ad glóriam, Dómine, tui nóminis
    ánnua festa répetens sacerdotális exórdii,
    mystérium fídei lætánter celebrávi,
ut in veritáte hoc sim, quod in sacrifício mýstice tractávi.
    Per Christum.
  • The Latin Introit has a typo in the first line: nos should be non.

  • The communion chant from the Liber Usualis (as an offertory chant here).
  • You can find a version of the Introit here, as the second option.
  • Thank you Paul and Aristotle for your help with this! I really appreciate it!!
