Dynamics in Polyphony

Is anyone aware of any resources discussing the interpretation of polyphony? In particular, I'm interested in practices regarding dynamics. I have been taught varying (and often contradictory) practices, none of which, I am sure, are without some merit. If anyone is aware of any resources, or is willing to share their own practices, I would greatly appreciate it.
