The answer to my previous question regarding Scott Turkington is readily avaliable, published on the internet if one looks in somewhat obvious places.

I won't GIVE the answer ... because I'll take the closing of my previous discussion as a sign that we can't say it out loud without the consent of the person in question ...

But to those who also chimed in wondering ... look in the obvious places that I should have thought to look in the first place. It's publicly published.

I did some searching of my own, PGA, and even with my pretty good Google-fu skills didn't turn up the information. So until somebody cites a published source, be sensitive about discussing people's job changes.

I confuse him with Gordon Turk about half the time anyway. It must be the name similarity.

I, OTOH, confuse Turk with "the Turk" Virgil Solazzo, the infamous assassin in the Godfather I. Is it just me? Why?
Cause Scott slays me everytime I hear him.

It's announced in the parish bulletin for Scott Turkington's previous post at the Cathedral in Charleston, SC that he has accepted a position in MN:
    A Message From The Rector
    Dear Parishioners:
This past weekend Scott Turkington informed me that he had accepted a
position at Holy Family Catholic Church, Minneapolis. Scott’s last weekend
at the Cathedral will be 24-25 August. I know that you join be me
expressing gratitude to Scott for his ministry among us these past several
years as Choirmaster/Director of Music and the beautiful music he brought
to the Cathedral parish, pariticulary at the 11:15 am Solemn Mass each
Sunday. May our Lord continue to bless him and those he is called to
    serve. Msgr. Brovey

    Oh SCOTT Turkington!

I had him confused with Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

(This explains why I could read about him on Wikileaks. I thought that was weird...)

  • Thanks for the info. I've been curious, too.
God bless Scott in his new post. And thanks for all his years of teaching and smiles.

No, no, no! Turkington and Turk, very good. Ataturk, very bad, abominably bad!

  • Scott will be giving a demonstration with his children's choirs at the Oct. conference at St. Agnes. www.musicasacra.com/st-agnes. (The updated version of the schedule remains to be posted, but it's at 1:00 on Tuesday, the 15th.) The demo will focus on the role of children's choirs in renewing a parish music program.

At the point that you are in a cathedral/diocessan/educational post you are almost (or actually are) a public figure.

Is speculation/talking about the move of such a person any different than Rocco Palmo blogging about where a bishop's next episcopal appointment is rumored to be?

PGA, it is difficult to know lately what is considered appropriate to discuss here and what isn't. I figure a lot of that is arbirtrary as a lot of people seem to skim others' writings rather than make a true effort to comprehend points being made. C'est la vie.

Yes. Speculation about bishops on an internet forum probably cannot influence the relevant decision-makers; and bishops have a lifetime job with a guarantee of support.

If S.T., a parish music director, is a public figure, maybe other parish music directors ought to step up to that status, and consider using their names on the forum. (I'm not recommending this, really; just making a point.)

I would agree with you if it were the case that a resignation had not already been offered and the job posted. Yes, in that case, such discussion could be harmful were the "desired" position to fall through and the pastor of the current position to get wind of it. That was not the case here.

To the second point: what does being a public figure have to do with using your real name on a forum? That is a non-sequiter. How do you know that Barack Obama and Sarah Palin don't post here under different names? Frankly, I'm a bit suspicious of the two here that we call "Jahazza" and "Kathy" ...

Call it an abundance of caution, based on what information I had at the time. You may think it's an excess of caution. In any case, it was only a temporary delay.

Oh, there are a lot of misunderstandings. People react to seeing a buzzword in a post, etc.

Aside from the core group that has posted here for some years, there is always the latest smart aleck who thinks he knows more about music than he does, who comes along and disturbs the peace with his "cleverness." This is the nature of forums everywhere, so I wouldn't expect this place to be any different.

Jahazza I don't know, but I thought Kathy was well-known.

    There's only one "z"!

And it actually is my name, albeit my middle name. I'm fairly well known at this point. I've added my gravatar picture. The fact that I use my middle name here and not my full name: Samuel J. Howard, is just an artifact of the forum software asking me for a username and not having a settable separate "display name" as some do. So I entered my usual username when I signed up.

Hi Samuel, it's great to put another familiar face to a username! Love your posts at PTB! And that someone has you as a usual suspect with Kathy should be source of joy at your good company. Both of you have steel trap intellects, and you share it not unlike our friend Karl Liam, with much wisdom. Nice of you to de-cloak.

Now that we've flushed out Kathy and Jahaza, are there any other suspicious characters on this forum that we should unmask? Just having fun with the idea, PGA. (Your mystique still endures, you two.)

Speaking of masks, I am reminded of the following passage from "Soon I Will Be Invincible," written by a gentleman who aspired to be a great American novelist, but instead became a video game designer:

“One day you wake up and realize the world can be conquered... I'm going to put a mask on and scrawl my name across the face of the world, build cities of gold, come back and stomp this place flat, until even the bricks are just dust. So you can just shut up. All of you. I'm going to move the world.”
