I'll be down in Nashville this weekend for a bachelor party. Church near downtown with good liturgy/music that I should attend Sunday morning? I could do the cathedral, but wanted to hear other suggestions, as well.

When you come to Nashville, attend Mass at the Church of the Assumption (1227 Seventh Avenue North). The neo-Gothic church is a beautiful, historic gem and the liturgy (sung Latin ordinary for the NO, including Credo III!!!!) and the priests are absolutely wonderful. You will not be sorry!

You could try my parish, the Church of the Assumption, in the Germantown neighborhood. There is an 8:30 and 11 a.m. Mass. I recommend the 8:30.

The men's schola will not be singing this Sunday, but even sans schola, we will chant the ordinary and Credo in Latin and most of the dialogues in English, and the cantor will chant the offertory and communion in English. The hymnody is usually good, too.

Feel free to send me a private message. I'd be happy to meet you.
  • CA is the ONLY place to go in Nashville, for sure!

Assumption it is! The 8:30 may be a bit early (I did mention "bachelor party" above, right? . . . ; ) but I'll make sure to get to the 11:00. Thanks for the input, friends.

Jackson Schoos' choir from the cathedral came here to St. Paul's in Birmingham on Pentecost to sing a wedding. They sing a pretty big spread of music at Incarnation, so if you're looking for a sung EF, you might be disappointed. However, if you are looking for a fantastic choir that has a wonderful sound, the cathedral is worth a look. I was very impressed with their work and discipline.

All the more reason to go to Mass at the penitential hour of 8:30!

    I jest.

Yes. Thanks to Jackson Schoos, our cathedral now has a choir and music program worthy of a cathedral.

My friend Jeff Hall runs the music at St. Joseph parish, which is in Madison (northeast Nashville). Their website says that the choir mass is also 8:30am on Sunday. You could get in touch with Jeff for more info:
