    Hello friends,

I wanted to let you know about a unique opportunity to explore vocal music of the 9th and 10th centuries in the three-part workshop Beyond Square Notes: chant and the Gradual Novum beginning next Monday evening in San Francisco, CA. Presented by Sven Edward Olbash of euouae.com.

The music we call "Gregorian" chant is more often than not performed according to traditions associated with the outdated 1908 Roman Gradual and its derivatives. Would we play Bach or Mozart without the benefit of scholarship from the past hundred years? Of course not!

In this workshop, we will look at original manuscripts that have recently become freely accessible online, and begin to learn how to decode them using the 2011 Graduale Novum, perhaps the most important chant resource to appear in the past 30 years.

While the return to a medieval practice of singing chant is controversial and at times impractical, a historical perspective on this ancient repertoire might just change your outlook on all music that has followed since then!

Shameless bump, but there are still spaces available for these workshops.
