Although little known, this composer wrote an evening service which is reasonably well documented, but I am trying to find his Te Deum and Jubilate. Can anyone help, please ?
Search for "Alan Gray" and "Te Deum". There are lots of entries. Note the spelling of his surname.
Alan Gray (1855 - 1931) was the director of music at Trinity College, Cambridge (1893-1930), where he achieved quiet fame as both a choral conductor and an organist. His book of hymn descants is still considered one of the best ever published.
If you like Alan Gray, you may well like John Ireland too. The opening melody in his English-language Te Deum bears a strong resemblance to the beginning of a certain British pop song of 40 years ago.
