    Has ICEL done an official version of the Asperges Me, or at least released an official/authorised text?

    I believe the Revised Grail Psalter translation of Psalm 51, verses 9 (antiphon) and 3ab (verse) would fit the bill.

    The Roman Missal provides the following text:
    Sprinkle me with hyssop, O Lord, and I shall be cleansed;
    wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.


    I found this in appendix 2, p. 1456 in my copy.

    You see, being a latin student, I take issue with that particular translation.

    Levabis me, - "You will wash me," The future tense is important here.

    But then again, I also take issue with the RGP translation of Psalm 51 (50), again due to my familiarity with the Latin text.

    On a slightly different matter, I would chant this to Tonus Peregrinus, particularly if it were to be used for a sprinkling rite during Lent. In my mind, this psalm demands that particular tone.

    The English texts of the Psalms are not translated from the Latin Vulgate, but from the original Hebrew. There are discrepancies.

    I would have imagined the Roman Missal (ICEL) would translate from the Latin, not from the scriptures being referenced by the Latin, but who knows.

    Harley, the Greek Septuagint also uses future tenses in that verse.

    Also, you use a word I (gently) chide my schola about: "Levabis me" means "you will lift me". "Lavabis me" means "you will wash me". ;-)

    Oh dear... that's one typo I've made too many times. Levabis/Lavabis.
