Easter choral/ensemble piece? He has/is Risen??
  • Has anyone heard of a piece called "He (Has or Is) Risen"? I believe one of the lines goes, "Alleluia sing to our heavenly king.."? I think it might have been by Purifoy?? Does anyone remember this or have it?

    There is a hymn called "He is Risen, He is Risen!" composed by the Sisters of Mercy and published by McLaughlin & Reilly in hymn-pamphlet form. It is four verses, the first of which follows:

    He is risen! He is risen!
    Chants the Angel at the tomb;
    Death no longer has dominion,
    Light has broken thro the gloom.
    Alleluia, alleluia, Lo! the stone is roll'd away;
    Alleluia, alleluia, Heav'n opens wide today.

    There's another one, too, that appears in Rev. Alfred Young's Catholic Hymnal, 1894, with different words and melody:

    He is risen! He is risen!
    Tell it out with joyful voice;
    He has burst his three days' prison;
    Let the whole wide earth rejoice.
    Death is conquer'd, man is free,
    Christ has won the victory.

    If you want either of these, I can photocopy them for you.
