Gregorian Chant Workshop in McLean, VA, October 17 -18
  • This second annual workshop in Gregorian Chant will again be directed by Scott Turkington. The $90 fee includes extensive instruction in reading/singing chant notation; lecture by pastor Fr. McAfee on the spirituality of chant;lecture by Fr. deLadurantaye on papal legislation/church documents related to liturgical music; concert by David Lang of organ works based upon chant melodies; two receptions; Saturday lunch; free childcare. We are already at 1/3 our seating capacity. Registration closes Sept. 30 or whenever 100 people have registered. The workshop culminates on Saturday evening at a Mass (Extraordinary Form) where participants will sing what they have learned. The Mass is that of St.Luke's feastday- - not an "anticipated" Mass for Sunday. A reception for participants follows the Mass. Last year's workshop was highly successful and loads of fun, with enthusiastic participants asking for more. You can go to musicasacra.com/mclean to print off the brochure and register by mail, or register there online and mail your check (we are not set up to take charge cards or to pay at the door). Don't miss out if you wish to attend! - - Elizabeth Poel, Chant Workshop Coordinator
  • If you live within a day's drive of Northern Virginia, you will be missing a rare and delightful treat if you don't clear your schedule and come to this workshop. It was spectacular last year and could only be better this year. Scott Turkington's ability to work with singers and would-be singers of all levels of experience and ability is simply astonishing. People with little previous experience with chant were actually able to sing from square notation by the end of the workshop. Others with a great deal of chant experience came away inspired and recommitted to chant. The hospitality of the workshop organizers and the people of Saint John's Church was generous, tasteful, and welcoming. Parking is easy and safe. Last year the workshop was full several weeks before it began. And rightly so!

If anyone has tips on how to get compensation for plugging sacred music events, please let me know! I could be a wealthy man.
  • Wealthy? If you were compensated thusly, Croesus would be asking you for a loan!
