Is this song set to an old hymn tone?
OCP has has published this as "O Loving God" by Paulette McCoy for funeral masses.

When I heard it, it just sounded odd to me.
  • Yes, it is that O Danny Boy ditty. I have had numerous requests for it. I just tell them I don't have the music for it. I believe the tune they use is Londonderry Air

It's also been "repurposed" as a "Celtic Song of Farewell," if I recall correctly, to circumvent the ban on "O Danny Boy."

"May flights of Annnnnnnngggellls lead you into Parrrrradiiiiissee . . . . "

Yes, the Song of Farewell, which is lyrically an ok paraphrase of In Paradisum, is published by WLP if I'm not mistaken. It can get you out of a jam, when the family is insisting like crazy on Danny Boy.

And just try not to hear the tune name as "London Derrière."
