Resourceful, inexpensive way to sound-proof a room?

We have no extra money (but what parish does?!) but need to figure out a way to insulate or "sound proof" a room that I use for warm-ups...the sound seems to travel quite loudly and clearly into the Church. :( Any suggestions or ideas?

    Earplugs. (For complainers.)
  • Overhearing the choir rehearse their music is a treasured part of church culture and a wonderful aid to pre-liturgy comtemplation. Too, if you sound proof your room it may not be worth singing in.

Rehearse earlier, or find another room?

Sound usually doesn't travel through walls that well - check the ventilation system and door gaps. That might be an easier fix.

  • Often the problem can be a reverberant hallway...outside the room carrying sound into the church. If you were to post a bunch of pictures of room and church and connecting area....
