SInging the red, green and the black.
  • Reading Gregorian chant was originally a group thing - calling for very large notes on a large staff.

There were certain things created to make it easier for newcomers to catch on, notably drawing the FA line in red, DO in green. This made the shifting clef action much clearer to see.

We've got two books that use this technique, going even further to draw the notes in red and green on the lines. One, A Gregorian Chant Coloring Book for Children and Adults gets the students coloring and learning; the second, If You Can Sing Joy to the World, also has a training video with english chants sung by Matthew Curtis.

All books are available from our site, Catholic bookstores and Amazon. All books are available for free download from our site as well.
