As stated in the title, I am starting a schola in my parish. It will comprise of myself and one other person to start. Hopefully, through God's grace, this will gain some traction and gain members as I go along. I have decided to approach it as a devotional to go along with the weekly rosary that my friend and I do. We always arrive about a half hour before the other participants in the rosary, so I asked if he wouldn't mind exploring some chant as an additional devotional. This ultimately serves me many purposes in that I can finally teach him to read music (he sings bass in our choir) and I can start the path towards music reform in our cluster. I am planning to start by going through the Jubilate Deo booklet and learn and memorize all of those basic chants. Does anyone have any suggestions for the next step after that, or an alternative starting resource that we might explore?
Pray that this devotional may turn into a ministry!
Parish Book of Chant. $14 per copy or a free download off this website. Some of them would be best learned for adorations such as O Salutaris Hostia and Tantum Ergo, which most people eventually pick up without ever reading the music.
