Could this forum start a "Liturgical Planning" service?

What if, say each Monday, the antiphons from the Graduale Romanum were posted for the following Sunday, and members could submit vernacular hymns or other suggestions which reflect those antiphons? I know that would be a help for me, and I would try to help as able too. Just an idea.

Interesting idea. I wonder how helpful it would be on a wide scale though... I know my parish schedules music on a monthly basis.

    Well, there are these:

    http://canticanova.com/pln_main.htm

CCWatershed is a tad bit behind, lately, however.
  • We too plan in advanced, generally a month or season. Love the canti canova link above. I have used NPM's link for but really looking for the sacred, this helps.

I think Gary Penkala's CanticaNova Lit/Music planning pages comprise the single most valuable research aid if a DM/CD needs such assistance. But even it, as comprehensive save for sacropop that it is, cannot supplant the discernment processes of every local church.
Regarding CMAA providing such a service, can't see that happening unless Chonak, Ben and other IT gurus could create an input database to which we would deposit (enter) our ordos over the cycles for years. I can't foresee that actually gaining much traction.

Yes to Canticanova! Why continue to reinvent the wheel?
  • I use Canticanova all the time for help in music planning.

I use NPM and Canticanova. I also used Liturgy.com but they quit offering a free planner.

I use first the scripture, then the propers of the day, then the psalm verse, If nothing pops out at me from that I will use NPM, Canticanova and a Today's Liturgy from OCP.
Once our choir gets up a little more confident with polyphony I will search CDPL and PDF music books for psalm numbers (eg, if one of the readings is based on Psalm 97, I would search The Catholic Choir Book (Crtl,F and type Psalm 97 or just 97).

This is why we need to get back to the Propers, everything is already picked for us.

As we trod these roads again, I might suggest reading Dom Mark Kirby's essay in the Spring 12 "Sacred Music." In it, what's abundantly clear is that we're not going "back" to the Propers per se, we're discerning what constitutes the variance among the origin, the VII mitigations and deconstructions, the purposes and the means and modalities (no pun) of integrating them into the living liturgy.
I basically start with the 1970 Proper processionals, as filtered primarily by Bartlett and Rice, and then move to the lessons. Even using OCP's BB I can generally find enough resonance to augment the missal Propers, either in a "stuffed" or stand alone ACA. If I have to go to a third source, it's CanticaNova. But never, EVER "Today's Liturgy."

There's 12 years of Offertory & Communion motet selections here (go to the bottom to select year-by-year):

Also, David Hughes does great work posting his own complete rep lists here (see the right side to select on a month-by-month basis):
