I have taught the standard chant versions of Ave Maria and Salve Regina to my 8th Graders. I am wondering if anyone knows of an arrangement of either of these that is two part (SA), simple and possibly even based on, or could incorporate the chant.
At my parish they sing a chant/polyphonic combo of the Kyrie (using the Hassler Kyrie mixed with chant). I think this would be so beautiful with the Ave or Salve.
Chuck Giffen has a great one. The schola I sing in used this as an introductory piece into multi-part music, so I certainly think you could possibly use it with your group. It doesn't incorporate the chant melody, but it's very beautiful all the same.
The Arcadelt Ave Maria would be pretty with just soprano and alto too. I just scanned in the score, but now I can't get it off of this other computer...I will add it to my site as soon as I can (it is an SSA version).
