The rubrics of the Missal describe the procedure for locating the proper for the Sundays that follow the XXIII Sunday after Pentecost. The proper for the XXIV Sunday after Pentecost is always used on the last Sunday of the Church year, regardless of how many Sundays there are. When there are more than 24 weeks, the left-over orations, Epistles and Gospels from the remaining Sundays after Epiphany are used, depending on how many extra weeks there are at the end of the year. This year there are 26 Sundays, so this week (XXIV) we use the readings from the V Sunday after Epiphany, next week the VI after Epiphany and finally the XXIV and Last Sunday after Pentecost. The choral propers, however (i.e. Introit, Gradual, etc.), are taken from the XXIII Sunday after Pentecost and repeated each week until the Last Sunday inclusive. So this year the schola gets to sing the same propers four Sundays in a row!
