Fulltime position in America’s oldest neo-Gothic cathedral (1852). Recently renovated (2010) with a superb acoustical environment. Responsibilities include planning liturgical music and serving as organist for four weekend liturgies, Holy Days, wedding and funerals, training and coordination of cantor program, and serving as choirmaster for the Cathedral Choir and Schola Mariana (Gregorian chant). Candidate will oversee the Cathedral Music support organization and supervise the Cathedral Concert Series. Temporary electronic organ with plans for a substantial pipe organ in the future, Steinway grand piano, ten tower bells with recently restored manual chime stand. Music staff includes a part-time music secretary and music librarian. Masters degree required; familiarity with the Roman Catholic liturgy and tradition of great choral music and chant are highly desirable. Diocesan responsibilities under the direction of the director of the Office of Prayer and Worship, the Director of Music works collaboratively with Diocesan Liturgical Commission Committees in the preparation for and celebration of diocesan liturgies.
