Laus Tibi Christe

I've read that during a Missa Cantata there is no sung response to the Gospel, yet many people attending our Mass seem to want to sing Laus Tibi Christe. Is that reserved for a low Mass, or is it appropriate to sing at the Missa Cantata>

    Thanks,

I believe that only the MC (and servers and/or Sacred Ministers) say "Laus Tibi, Christe." I think it is usually said in a soft voice.

It depends on the period of "Low Mass" you prefer. The encouragement of Pope Pius XII of the "Dialog Mass" usually included most of the servers' responses during the Low Mass. It took the "reform" to give them to the congregation musically.

Now, if we could just get the congregation - under the leadership of the musicians - to respond at the tempo set by the priest/deacon! I'm so tired of hearing "Verbu Domini" followed by "Laauus ti - bi Chri - steeee - ee - ee - ee - eeeeeeeeee." and "... per omnia seacula saeculorum" followed by "Aaahhhhhh -- meeeeeennnnnnn."
