The Cathedral of Saint Paul in Birmingham, Alabama, seeks a full-time Music Director. The candidate must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. The candidate should be knowledgeable of the liturgical and musical tradition of the Catholic Church and capable of providing the highest quality sacred music at all liturgies. Qualifications include choir conducting and organ/piano proficiency. The candidate must have great team/interpersonal skills; excellent knowledge of Catholic liturgy; and familiarity with traditional Catholic music, sacred polyphony, Gregorian chant, and the best of new sacred music. Computer skills are required (preferably Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher). Experience arranging music is preferred, but not necessarily required. Responsibilities include oversight and direction of the Cathedral choir and music programs; presence at three Sunday Masses; assisting in planning and playing music for weddings, funerals, and other special liturgies; and oversight of music at major Diocesan liturgies (Ordinations, Chrism Mass, etc.). Master of Music or higher required (or commensurate parish experience). Benefits eligible.
