Please enjoy these free recordings of the Blackstone Valley Catholic Youth Choir, an organization of about 20 children, ages 8 to 15, specializing in the study of Gregorian Chant, traditional hymnody, and sacred choral music. The choir is based at St. Brendan's Parish in Bellingham, Massachusetts, about halfway between Boston and Worcester. I formed the choir about a year ago, hoping to teach my own children a little bit about sacred music -- their progress has astounded me!
Nicely done, Michael. Those not from the area should know you've accomplished this on a volunteer basis and apart from your regular UCC job. To my knowledge it is the only Catholic children's choir in the Boston suburbs capable of singing repertoire of this level and quality. That says all that needs to be said of our regional parish music programs.
On a side note, I also enjoyed the video of Nicholas' piano recital. I see he's been influenced by his uncle's rhythmic theories.
This kind of work is critical for the Church. For years youth choirs, children's choirs et al have been monopolized by secular academies and schools. A good thing for them, but sacred music was composed for the Mass. Well done and thank you for sharing.
