An ambitious, full-time Director of Music is being sought to lead and enhance the comprehensive music program for the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, Illinois.

To be considered, a candidate must be a practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of the traditions and customary rubrics of the Roman Catholic liturgy. Position requires a high proficiency in organ and piano. The candidate should have a strong resume leading significant programs, with prior experience developing and conducting parish choirs with adults and children. Preferred candidates will possess a graduate degree in Organ or Sacred Music or equivalent experience. We require a broad-based knowledge of the entire breadth of the Church's sacred musical history-from the most traditional hymns to the most recent compositions. The candidate will also plan and implement seasonal musical programs that foster prayer and an appreciation of the arts.

The Director of Music is responsible for being the principle organist for 4-5 liturgies per weekend, holy days, parish sacramental celebrations, the weekly grade school mass and several Religious Education masses annually.

In addition, the Cathedral Director of Music is responsible for the planning and execution of music for approximately twelve diocesan liturgies held at the Cathedral each year. This responsibility entails developing and conducting the Diocesan Chorale and instrumentalists.

Salary will be based upon experience and qualifications, though it would be expected to fall within the AGO guidelines for a full-time position. Wedding and funeral stipends are paid directly to the Music Director. (Cathedral averages 30 weddings and 40+ funerals per year.)
