St. Peter Roman Catholic Church seeks a part-time organist to play for two Sunday English Masses which regularly utilize Latin. St. Peter’s is a parish of 1200 members in the Lake county community of Volo, IL (north of Chicago) staffed by the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius with a small two-manual Wicks pipe organ.
The candidate should have knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy and Gregorian chant. Additionally, applicants should be able to accompany the congregational singing of hymns and Gregorian chant, accompany the volunteer adult choir in classical sacred repertoire, provide organ solo music within the liturgy and as postludes, and work with the clergy and Choir Director in the execution of liturgical music. This part-time position is 8-10 hours per week. Salary negotiable with additional compensation for weddings, funerals, holy days, and other liturgical events.
