Jeff Ostrowski has kindly been posting my new settings of the Responsorial Psalms on the Chabanel site, adding them to the wonderful range of options already available there. As demonstrated in the sample pdf below (for Easter Sunday), my aim is to provide an antiphon that is quite simple, yet still promotes the ideal of sacred music in the parish context. The melodies are modal, shaped after the pattern of syllabic Gregorian chant, and non-metrical: the rhythm follows the text. The verses are set to the Office Psalm Tones. Both antiphon and verses are provided with organ accompaniment; organist and vocalist have separate scores, and there is formatted copy of the antiphon for reprinting in a parish service leaflet.
