The typical (one might say ubiquitous) mode VI Alleluia to which you are referring is (OF) an option for the communion antiphon. In the EF (1961 Holy Week), I believe it functioned similarly as an antiphon of (and segue to) Lauds of Easter Sunday, which was celebrated at the end of the Easter Vigil.
