    Music Director
    STATUS: Non-Exempt
    REPORTS TO: Cluster Music Director
    DATE: February 2012
    FULL OR PART TIME:  Per Diem

    Application period closes January 31st.


    Duties:



    Provide music on the piano and/or organ for the 5:15pm Mass on Saturdays, the 9am Mass on Sundays,
    and occasional Holy Days during the week. 
    Provide music for funerals and weddings that occur on Saturdays.
    Recruit musicians for the music ministry program at St. Peter’s and maintain a roster of volunteers.
    Schedule, and train cantors for weekend and Holy Day masses.
    Rehearse and direct the parish choir at the Sunday morning liturgy.
    Direct the youth choir on some occasions.
    Collaborate with cluster musicians and staff.
    Participate in special cluster liturgies.
    Other duties as needed and assigned.



    Position Qualifications:

    BA in music, or related field preferred. 
    Minimum of at least 2 year of experience in music ministry.
    Person of faith, committed to music as a liturgical ministry.
    Knowledge of liturgical theology and relevant documents governing sacred music.
    Ability to work weekends and evenings.

    Physical Requirements:



    Ability to play organ and/piano as necessary.
     Ability to direct a choir.

    I expect this thread to be closed any minute, but I can't resist asking if "cluster music" is a widely understood term?

    I assume "cluster" refers to the organizational structure, i.e., the parish is "clustered" with at least one other parish, and not a reference to a style or type of music. I suspect the applicant will be expected to oversee the music for several parishes under the administration of a central staff.  J.S. Bach was perhaps an early example of a director of "cluster music" when he accepted the position in Leipzig.
