Recently watched Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life" and I found it profoundly Catholic. Is he Anglican/Episcopal? Aside from the visuals (a confirmation and various Church and prayer scenes), the MUSIC.
Did anyone else, with musicasacra.com sensibilities watch this?
I thought it was going to be a lot more likeThe Fountain. Supernatural and meditative, but enough like a normal movie that you could watch it like a movie.
It is NOT A MOVIE.
It is an art film.
So, it ruined DVD date night with my wife.
However: It is a profoundly moving piece of cinema, and deeply spiritual. Great music. Great visuals. An unbelievable (in a good way) performance from Brad Pitt. Distressingly human meditations on death, weakness, the inability to love properly...
I would have wished for a more clear sense of God's redemption. Also, I would have preferred fewer dinosaurs.
