It may be of interest to the readership here that this Thursday, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Wilko Brouwers's Missa Alme Pater, which was written for the 2004 Sacred Music Colloquium, will be sung at St. Paul's Church in Philadelphia, PA, at the Latin Mass at 7pm. In addition, a setting of Ave Maria by Philadelphia composer Dr. Harold Boatrite will also be sung.
Wilko Brouwers and his excellent work are well-known by all of us. Dr. Boatrite often attends our Mass at St. Paul's. He studied with Lukas Foss, among others, and served on the faculty of Haverford College as well as contemporary music consultant to the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. It's a great privilege for us to be doing the work of these two composers.
The organ music will also be contemporary: Kevin Allen's Alma Redemptoris Mater, and Ned Rorem's Magnificat.
