A very sad example of just how far metal thieves will go.
A Mr. Tietze is interviewed in the story. I don't know if it's the same guy mentioned in recent threads. -

At least it was on the ground. In Cleveland, copper thieves skinned one of the onion domes of the Russian Orthodox cathedral.

And if you believe this story, then I've got a bridge to sell you, brother. Oh no, wait -- the bridge was stolen and sold for scrap too. :-/

Simili modo, the 100-year-old Longfellow Bridge between Boston and Cambridge had most of its decorative ironwork stolen by (get this!) state conservation workers. They got a year in jail. Oh, well, anybody got a million bucks to replace it?
