The Church of Saint Catherine of Siena on the Upper East Side/Yorkville (New York City) is seeking to augment its fine core of 10 singers.

We currently have openings for two positions: Tenor I and Soprano-2nd Soprano.

The Music Department utilizes the best and most artistic of the Catholic-Christian musical tradition, from Gregorian chant to Arvo Pärt and Ned Rorem. There are concert opportunities in addition to the busy liturgical life of the parish.

Every individual in the Schola knows that their particular gift contributes to the whole and, collectively, helps their audience to experience a realm that is spiritual and transcendental. Additionally, these talented music-makers:

--learn notes before rehearsals and arrive punctually—completely prepared for the appointment’s schedule of music
    --sight-sing and learn quickly
--are independent in their voice-parts, relying on no one else to sing their line
--lead their section as if alone
--vocally perform successfully in choir, small ensembles, or as soloists
    --use good intonation
--sing comfortably in English and Latin, as well as other languages, when necessary
--interpret and employ various stylistic/historical performance practices
--match vowels and color to their colleagues’
--adapt when using the outermost areas of their range
--utilize their abilities to transpose at sight when needed
--use the entire plethora of appropriate vocal technique and musical expression when necessary
    --exhibit leadership skills
--behave and dress professionally, respectfully, and reverently
--have some familiarity with IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)
--notify the Director of Music in advance of any problems, issues, concerns, absences, or tardiness associated with their position
--arrange for substitute singers for those events and rehearsals, if applicable, for which they know they will be absent
--climb stairs, walk in procession while singing, hold folders or hymnals for long periods of time

Above all, members of the Schola Dominicana cherish their roles, giving them due dignity, and concern themselves with excellence, beauty, and infecting those around them with a thirst for life and truth, experienced through the gift that brings them to lead and inspire: Music.
