St. Francis of Assisi Parish in the Diocese of Venice in Florida is seeking a Music Director who will be a full time salaried employee. Responsibilities include coordinating weekend and holy day Masses, weddings (very few), funerals and other parish celebrations; training cantors, directing choirs and training the worshiping assembly. The Parish has a Chancel Choir and a small Children’s Choir. Some of the Chancel Choir also forms the Resurrection Choir for funerals. Candidates must possess knowledge of Catholic liturgy and music, proficiency at keyboard with strong emphasis on organ, be able to cantor from the organ when no cantor is available, and have organizational and communication skills. The Parish has a four manual Baldwin Classical Church Organ, however because of space constraints in the body of the Church there is no piano. With the introduction of the new Roman Missal on First Sunday of Advent there will be a need to train both the choirs and congregation the new Mass settings. Minimum requirement is an undergraduate degree in music, experience preferred.
