chant for dedication of a church?
  • Hi all,

Is there a source somewhere that gives Gregorian chant for the actual rites of dedication of a church?

The Graduale Romanum, of course, gives the Common of a church dedication, which contains the Terribilis introit, Locus gradual, etc. What I am looking for, though, is, for example, Gregorian chant appointed to sing while the altar is being anointed.

The Diocesan Bishop would be there for this ceremony, therefore these texts and chants would be in the Roman Pontifical. The books we use everyday, and every weekend, are only for Masses within the Calendar, and within the parish priest's purview.
  • Good point....but why, then, are the texts of the rite in the Ritual, not the Pontifical?

And wouldn’t the chants be considered the province of the choir rather than the bishop?
  • Felipe,

Here are the chants I wrote based on the melodies of the Roman Pontifical.

    Blessings,
    Paul
