    random side question-

    when else during the liturgical year would this or something like it (Psalm 51) be appropriate? (aside from Ash Wednesday during the ashes part.) Good Friday?

    various times during lent, but not sure about other times... look up listing of psalms in index of gradual perhaps. Adam has a very cool table that lists all propers.... do a find in page, miserere
