I've wanted to say something for some time now:

I think the organ pieces based on Gregorian chant, composed by Charles Callahan, are amazing.

    Does anyone else like these?
  • They are lovely - even my wife's Episcopal congregation loves them.
  • Another BACS alumnus. Interestingly, many Boston area organists are hesitant to play his compositions. Not everything is of equal value, but there's useful stuff for those willing to sift through it all.
  • Yes: extremely useful pieces!
Also check out the chant-based works of Gerald Near.
The chant settings of Jeanne Demessieux are quite approachable as well.

    They are very accessible.

I think, as DBP mentions, that Near's pieces are very nice and tasteful. His Adoro te variations are really wonderful, while being pretty easy to play.
  • Colin Mawby is another name that is worth looking into. He has at least two books of various smaller pieces for mass. Quite beautiful.
