We’ve been practicing Mitte manum for this Sunday, from the Communio project here, and I’ve noticed that for verses 11 and 16 there is no incipit. Instead it goes directly into the reciting tone. Clearly, given the division of these two verses, there simply aren’t enough syllables in the first half to fit in both the incipit and the mediant cadence…but why is it the incipit that is omitted? Is there a rule for this situation?
