Clementine Vulgate in the Divine Office
  • Hi,

Is it liturgically correct to use the Clementine Vulgate instead of the New Vulgate in post-Vatican II Divine Office (either roman or monastic)?
Or is the New Vulgate mantory for the latin usage?

    Thanks in advance.

My sense is the New Vulgate is highly encouraged. I believe I'm remembering correctly, however, the newest Antiphonale from Solesmes, while using the New Vulgate for the Psalms, uses the traditional Magnificat (salutari vs. salvatore) with the New Vulgate Magnificat relegated to some appendix.

Unless it is fulfilling the obligation of priests or religious on a regular basis, I would think either would be acceptable - particularly if one is using the Clementine Vulgate for the sake of existing musical settings.
