Seeking Sources of English Chant
  • What sources do you find helpful for Gregorian Chant in English....seen here as a transitional tool for leading a congregation and choir back to Latin Chant....

    Thank you.

  • Well, I'd recommend http://www.beaufort.demon.co.uk/books.htm as a good start!

    Thanks, excellent site.
I had no answer to your query, was hoping it would produce more advice.

There are lots of good Anglican resources -- honestly, that's probably the best place to look. For instance, the Monastic Diurnal Noted from Lancelot Andrewes Press has almost the entire pre-Conciliar Monastic Office in English chant.

Andrewes Press (which is actually itself Western Orthodox) is also developing a chant missal with "distributed tones" (that is, using Psalm tones, but with different tones for each Mass, unlike the Rossini propers) for the EF.

The 1940 and 1982 Hymnals (Episcopal Church) have a lot of good English plainchant, too, though they're both in round note notation.
