I'm curious what folks think about the Schubert songs for Palm Sunday in the St Gregory. They seem really simple and abbreviated compared to the chants. Does anyone find these lacking for some reason, or are they rather acceptable or even preferable alternatives?
Maybe there's a bit of nostalgia involved, but I like them. The settings seem strong and vigorous, and if you prefer, are quite easily convertible to English. Pueri Hebraeorum... = The Children of the Hebrews... Also, the organ and the harmony can add to the festive nature of the entry into Jerusalem.
