St. Boniface Parish Hosts Visit of Father Samuel Weber, OSB

On April 11 and 12, the Music Department at St. Boniface Parish will conduct a workshop on Gregorian Chant. The goal of the workshop will be to de-mystify Gregorian chant for those new to it, without neglecting those who already have a basic understanding of chant.



Pope Benedict XVI has emphasized the importance of the musical treasures of the Catholic Church, particularly chant, and many Catholics have expressed an interest in learning more about this beautiful and prayerful music.



Father Samuel Weber, OSB, will be guest lecturer for the clinic. Fr. Samuel is currently Associate Professor of Early Christianity and Spiritual Formation at Wake Forest University Divinity School. Prior to his appointment at Wake Forest he was on the faculty at St. Meinrad School of Theology and St. Meinrad College, St. Meinrad, Indiana. During the summers of 2004 – 2007 he served as teacher and choirmaster for the Liturgical Institute, Archdiocese of Chicago, Mundelein, IL.



In answer to the call of Vatican Council II to sing the Mass and to provide new music in English, Fr. Samuel has been working on a number of projects. He has been commissioned by parishes and religious communities throughout the United States to compose simple settings of the Proper chants of the Mass' Entrance Antiphon, Responsorial Psalm, Alleluia, Offertory Antiphon, and Communion Antiphons and of music for the Liturgy of the Hours.

Saturday, April 12

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon - Singing Gregorian Chant – Part I



12:00 Noon – Box lunch (pre-order by calling Nan at the Rectory, 742-5063, by Tuesday, April 1st, $8 each)



1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Singing Gregorian Chant – Part II



4:30 p.m. – Novus Ordo Missa Cantata with Gregorian Chant Introit, Offertory, and Communion sung by Men's Schola Gregoriana and Women's Schola Gregoriana, and Offertory and Communion motets sung by the St. Boniface Schola Cantorum. Gregorian Chant Ordinary sung by scholae, choir, and congregation. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to sing at this Mass.
