For those of you who have your choir chant/sing the propers during Communion and then sing a congregational hymn AFTER Communion, what do you do at the masses which have no choir?
The obvious answer would be "the organist plays" - but what happens during Lent when there should be no solo organ music? Does the congregation simply receive in silence, or do you add a congregational chant?
I have cantors who sing the communion proper, then lead the hymn. Sometimes I play, at the pastor's instruction, while the cantor/choir receives communion. He signs my check, so we do it his way.
