I have a Korean lady in my schola who just joined last fall . Although she is not experienced in chant, she is eager to learn. And for her, solfege is easy, even if she never sang from chant notation before. Because in Korea all the children learn solfege in music class, and we had to memorize songs in solfege. (I still remeber those solfege names written in Korean inside the note heads in the music book. Of course they will eventually disappear, and the children will sing them from just notes.)
