Best Advent/Christmas hymns in PBEH
  • What are they? I'm not very familiar with most of them, so which ones would you guys consider Advent of Christmas hymns? Thanks!

This is just me going through and characterizing them. I'm not making any votes.

    Christmas:
Angels from the Realms of Glory
Angels We Have Heard on High
As with Gladness Men of Old
    Away in a Manger
    Beside the Manger
    Bethlehem, of Noblest Cities
Break Forth, O Beauteous Heavenly Light
Earth Has Many a Noble City
    Joy to the World
Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming
    O Come All Ye Faithful
    Of the Father's Love Begotten
    Once in Royal David's City
    See Amid the Winter's Snow
    Silent Night
    Sleep, Holy Babe
    Virgin-Born, We Kneel Before Thee

    Advent:
    Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Creator of the Stars of Night
Like the Dawning of the Morning [Christmas also]
    O Come, Divine Messiah
The God Whom Earth and Sea and Sky [Christmas also]
  • In the Bleak Midwinter
Silent Night (overdone, but there's a reason)
    Est ist ein Ros entsprungen
    Wexford Carol
    Hark the Herald Angels Sing
  • Relieve my ignorance- what is PBEH? My mind is going, I'm sure.

Good Christian Men, Rejoice and Sing

    Of the Father's Love Begotten
    Once in Royal David's City

    Maureen: O Come, Divine Messiah

I didn't see that on the web page. I'm not trying to nitpick, I'm just wondering if you have a better list.
  • While it is not published yet, all the music may be downloaded now.

    Re: "O Come, Divine Messiah"

Oops. That was my head typing, not my eyes.

I'm kinda weirded out that there aren't more Advent songs. I did a whole homebrew album of Advent songs for my family Christmas present last year. (Went over like a ton of bricks, mind you, but the songs are out there.)

Other English Advent hymns on my list (not in PBEH):

The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns (early Advent)
The Angel Gabriel from Heaven Came
    O Come, O Come Emmanuel
    Comfort, Comfort O My People
    People Look East
    The Advent of Our King
    The Coming of Our God
  • Would any of these work for the "Adoro Te Devote" melody?
  • Sussex Carol
The Snow lay on the ground venite adoremus
O little town of Bethlehem (Forest Green)
While shepherds watched their flocks by night
My personal fav- Song of the Nuns of Chester ( the Oxford book of Carols)
