Today is the Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, the day when the Church sings the sequence Stabat Mater Dolorosa.
It's a good day to dust off this theologically rich sequence, which usually confined to parish Lenten devotions. Here's a good place to start, with The Ultimate Stabat Mater Website: http://www.stabatmater.info/
Here are recordings for the propers of the Mass according to the Extraordinary Form. Apologies for the poor recording quality, as well as the occasional wrong note.
The Extraordinary-Form propers differ from those of the Ordinary Form in the following ways:
• Introit: EF verse cf. John 19:26–27; OF verse Ps. 55(56):2 • Gradual: EF "Dolorosa et lacrimabilis es" (cf. "Benedicta et venerabilis es"); OF "Deus, vitam meam" (Ps. 55(56):8–9, V/.2) • Communion: EF "Felices sensus"; OF "Redime me, Deus"
(Sources: Liber Usualis; Graduale Romanum 1974.)
Hopefully someone will find this useful next year or thereafter.
