Ordinariate Calendar Questions

    A few questions for those who work and/or worship at an Ordinariate church or are otherwise intimately familiar with their liturgical praxis:

    1. Does the Anglican term minor propers remain in general use to differentiate the proper chants sung by the cantors/choir/schola from major propers sung by the clergy?

    2. Are the choral propers specified somewhere or simply taken from the corresponding Mass in the Roman rite?

    3. Which calendar designation is used for "green" Sundays?
    Sundays after Pentecost
    Sundays after Trinity
    Sundays after the Octave of Trinity
    Sundays in Ordinary Time
    Sundays throughout the Year
    Proper 1, 2, 3, etc.

    Is this uniform throughout the Ordinariate?

    4. Which feast days take precedence over a "green" Sunday? Again, is this uniform throughout the Ordinariate?

    5. Are there external solemnities or feasts that are typically transferred to Sunday?

    6. Besides Sundays, holy days of obligation, Ash Wednesday, the Triduum, weddings, and funerals, on what other occasions would a typical Ordinariate parish have a Sung/High Mass?

    (1). Yes.
    (2). All Ordinariate Mass texts are specified in Divine Worship: Missal. The five ‘minor’ propers are translated from the Graduale Romanum.
    (3). Sundays after Trinity and Sundays after Epiphany. The calendar also provides for the three pre-Lent Sundays. Mass readings use the three-year Novus Ordo lectionary.
    (4). Solemnities and some feasts of Our Lord. Parishes all follow the Ordinariate Ordo: no ‘parish custom’ transferring or elevating of feasts.
    (5). Epiphany and Corpus Christi. The green Sunday nearest the actual date of a parish church’s consecration can be celebrated as a local solemnity of the dedication.
    (6). Varies greatly by parish. All Saints and All Souls are usually sung. Other favourites include Candlemas, Our Lady of Walsingham, and Michaelmas.

    Regarding number 6, Our Lady of Walsingham is a popular one for Sung Mass too. If there's a school or some sort of co-op attached to the parish, the weekday school Mass may be sung as well. My parish also does a sung Rorate Mass during Advent each year.

    It's also my experience that important days are sometimes emphasized by evensong as opposed to Sung Mass, especially if it's a weekday. For instance, St. Nicholas or St. Lucy might get a normal missa lecta as part of the usual parish daily Mass schedule, but then sung vespers will be added and celebrated in the evening.

    Many thanks for these replies! I have a PDF of the Book of Divine Worship but had forgotten that it was superseded. I found this FAQ, which discusses the propers in no. 8.
