The Parish of St. John Chrysostom and St. Thomas Aquinas (South Bronx) is holding auditions for for a brand new choral program starting this year, with the season starting in October and running until Corpus Christi.
The schola will sing for alternating Sundays at the two churches, with the exception of a few weeks after Christmas. A regular Sunday will be either an 8am call/9am Mass at SJC (985 E 167th St) or an 8:30 call/9:30 Mass at STA (1900 Crotona Pkwy). The total pay for rehearsal + Mass is $115.
Some additional afternoon/evening calls include Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday, for which singers will receive a higher rate.
Repertoire will include hymns and other congregational music in Spanish (sometimes English), and Latin motets from the Renaissance to contemporary composers. Please note that the schola will be a quartet singing one-to-a-part. Applicants need not be fluent Spanish speakers, but you must be able to pronounce it proficiently and fluidly. Auditions will be held by appointment, and the schola season begins on October 4th.
