We sang the hymn "Virgo Dei Genitrix" on Sunday, so I experimented with making an English text for it:

For those who've noticed: yes, this hymn is irregular, inasmuch as the third line of the stanzas has either six or seven syllables. The inconsistency exists in the Latin text, and I kept the same pattern in the English version.
So maybe the meter is 7 - 8 - 6.5 - 7 ?
