Calling all parish musicians and clergy in Michigan to the Michigan Sacred Music Retreat, September 2-4 at Sacred Heart Parish in Grand Rapids, MI. The theme for this retreat is Psallite Domino: the Psalms as the Foundation of Worship.
Martin Baker, former Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral in London, will be the retreat’s Artist-in Residence. Other presenters include Dr. Horst Bucholz, Director of Music at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit and Dr. Nathan Schmiedicke, Professor of Exegesis at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary (FSSP) in Nebraska. The Retreat Master will be Fr. Christopher Jarvis of the Diocese of Gaylord.
Two and a half days of prayer, rest, and fellowship with other musicians from the seven dioceses of Michigan, to remember the dignity and aim of our labors and kick off the choral season on the right foot.

Thurs Sep 3: Sung Mass and Office, sessions with Fr. Jarvis on the dignity of the sacred musician and psalmody; breakout with Martin Baker on creative Psalm Accompaniment; confession and spiritual direction available
Fri Sep 4: Sung Mass and Office, lecture by Dr. Schmiedicke on the mystagogy of the Psalms, breakout with Horst Bucholz on basic musical resources to build a durable and effective program, adoration, confession, and spiritual direction, evening recital by Martin Baker on the brand new 39-rank Ruffatti organ, closing reception
Lodging is not provided; most meals are provided, however!
Preference is given to full-time church musicians and clergy in the state of Michigan, but please do not hesitate to sign up if you fall into neither of those categories!!
Our aim in keeping the pricing reasonable is to encourage parishes to cover this for their musicians in the name of professional development.
