This is the choir with which I sing, for which I am handling administrative things on behalf of the pastor in the 2026-2027 year.
The Church of the Assumption in the Germantown neighborhood of Nashville, T ennessee seeks soprano and bass section leaders to form the professional core of the parish choir for the upcoming 2026–2027 choral year. Duties include, but are not limited to: ● Attendance at weekly rehearsal (Wednesdays, 7:00–9:00 p.m.) from August through June ● Singing for Sunday Mass (9:00 a.m. warm-up, 10:00 Mass) from August 16th until the last Sunday of June ● Singing for the 6:00 p.m. Mass or other evening services on weeknights (call time 5:00 PM) and Saturday mornings (10:00 Mass) as scheduled from August 14th until June 24th ● Singing with the men’s schola for Sunday Vespers at 6 p.m. (call time no earlier than 4:30) on eight selected Sundays this choral year.
Applicants should possess excellent capability in the following areas: ● Sight-reading ● Ensemble technique (blending) ● Stylistic adaptability, including singing with little vibrato ● Leadership, especially with volunteer singers, and singing one-to-a-part
Pay is per call, with singers receiving up to $10,500 for a maximum of 76 services and 48 rehearsals.
Availability on holy days including Christmas and Easter is essential (schedule available upon request).
Singers with significant experience with Gregorian chant in square notation and unaccompanied polyphony are especially encouraged to apply.
The schola sings at the 10:00 Sunday Mass in Latin featuring chant propers and ordinaries and desires to expand into polyphonic repertoire; it provides the chant for other services (Sunday Vespers from August to May/June, Holy Week, etc.), supported by the choir including Catholic volunteers and a mix of Catholic and non-Catholic professionals (who must be willing to learn chant notation).
A practicing Catholic would be ideal, but anyone willing to comport themselves appropriately and respectfully for Catholic liturgy in the presence of volunteer singers is welcome to apply. All diocesan and parochial norms will be followed.
Please submit a brief introduction along with a recording as your part of a Latin Renaissance motet with a score as well as all inquiries to the schola email address: assumptionnashvilleschola(at)gmail(dot)com.
PS: Practicing Catholic men are also eligible to join the men's schola if they wish.
