It appears the backbone of so many worthy programs is down again. Any word on what's up or the timeline?

They've been having issues for a long time. I don't know the root cause, but it seems like Cloudflare is on the defensive there. Maybe high bot activity is a contributor? Underlying database issues? Both? I've found it nearly unusable for months. It's like a big win to actually successfully search and source a score without at least one major hiccup. It would be a great loss to our collective work if it can't be stabilized.

Yes and they sort of don’t want to acknowledge this.

It is due to high bot activity but I also think that there are other issues. For example I might log in in one tab and it doesn’t carry to the next. Logging in again is actually spammy behavior!

CPDL has had a major problem arise, and here is the latest info:
It seems that a major vulnerability issue has been identified in cPanel and WHM, which are the software packages that our hosting provider (Bluehost) installed to allow us to manage the main CPDL server. For this reason the hosting provider has set the server offline to prevent unauthorized access and to apply the necessary security patches. ... No ETA estimate is available to us at the present time.

Our backup website ( https://www1.cpdl.org/ ) is up and running, although it reflects the status of the main website when the last backup was made, few hours before the outage of the main website started. The backup website is set in read-only mode to prevent misalignment between the main and the backup server.

I'm sorry this has happened, as it has greatly impeded my own administrative work on the site.

Grateful for any word, and that the outage is on purpose and preventative.

God bless your work -- I'm certain a service doing this much good for divine worship the world over has drawn the attention of certain darker powers.

I guess it’s not a good idea to drench the server with holy water

  • @francis maybe not holy water. But perhaps holy contact cleaner? I suppose there's no provision for blessing solvents into sacramentals, alas. But maybe an exorcism is in order.

Thanks for the updates, @CHGiffen. I'm sure it's more frustrating for you than all of us! I appreciate your efforts, and your update here.

Given that contact cleaner is primarily isopropyl alcohol, modifying the blessing of beer may be an option, but upon reading the blessing, the blessing is for good health of those who drink it. Generally speaking, one doesn’t drink isopropyl alcohol.

Perhaps a St. Benedict medal placed on or in it. We had a cash register that would keep crashing and give us the Blue Screen of Death. One day a St. Benedict medal ended up in the cash drawer from someone’s change. It stayed there for two weeks before it was taken out. The entire two weeks it was in the cash drawer, the register never crashed. Almost immediately after it was removed, the register started crashing again.

I believe it. Mother Angelica said during one broadcast that whenever they were going to have a show about demons and how to wage angelic warefare they always had to prepare a whole second set of broadcast equipment, because inevitably the first would go out.

We have St. Benedict medals buried in the four corners of our property as well as pinned above every portal into the home.

Yes @32contrabombarde… I was thinking exorcism when I mentioned the holy water because I always use epiphany water. The St. Benedict medal securely in the right place inside and then a blessing by a priest with epiphany water… you don’t need much.
