Dumb question
  • In the Sacramentary for this coming Sunday (23rd in Ordinary Time), the first Communion Antiphon given is "Like a deer that longs for running streams". Looked in Graduale Romanum and Simplex under "Communion Antiphons" for "Sicut Cervus" and it's not in either. Why?
  • ah the great puzzle. Bugnini cobbled together a different set of propers, designed for spoken Masses, that are published in the Missal.

There is a discussion of this issue in another thread.

incidentally, the Latin original in the missal is not the familiar "Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes..." but rather "Quamadmodum desiderat cervus ad fontes..."

The Nova Vulgata translation is somewhat... um... interesting in its word choices. Yeah.

"Altus cantus aptus" has its uses, and "Sicut cervus" with that wording is one of them.
