OF Lenten Gospel Acclamation and Verse for Marriage (USA)
  • We have a wedding occurring during Lent in my parish. I have a question regarding the rubrics of the Order of Celebrating Matrimony (OCM).

    The OCM states:
The Alleluia and the Verse before the Gospel
    Psalm 134:3
    r. Alleluia, alleluia.
May the Lord bless you from Zion,
he who made both heaven and earth. r.
    Or, during Lent: cf. 1 John 4:16b, 12, 11
    R. (Psalm 81:2) Sing joyfully to God our strength.
God is love. Let us love one another, as God has loved us. R.

This appears to give only one option for the Lenten Gospel Acclamation ("Sing joyfully to God our strength") and one option for the verse ("God is love. Let us love one another, as God has loved us").

Are these the only licit options during Lent? I can't find anything on the USCCB website. The Liturgy Office England & Wales website lists five options. The Together for Life booklet from Ave Maria Press lists six options but is unclear which may be used during Lent.

So, which verses are licit to be used during Lent?

And regarding the Lenten Gospel Acclamation, would it be licit to replace "Sing joyfully to God our strength" with "Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ, King of endless glory!"?

If there are authoritative sources that directly answer this, please share them. If not, I would like to know what the common opinion of liturgists is.
